Child & Youth Support Worker


About the role – Multiple Casual Positions!

The Child and Youth Support Worker provides 24/7 therapeutic, trauma-informed care to children and young people under the guardianship of the Department of Child Protection, many of whom have experienced trauma, neglect, or disability, by creating a safe and nurturing home environment, supporting emotional, behavioural, and developmental needs, assisting with daily routines and independent living skills, maintaining household duties, facilitating access to education, health, and community services, and working collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure positive, long-term outcomes for each young person.

Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to:

  • Providing trauma-informed, person-centred care and support to children and young people in a safe and nurturing home environment.
  • Assisting with daily routines, household tasks, and the development of independent living skills.
  • Supporting access to education, health services, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Accurately documenting case notes, reporting incidents, and collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders.

About you:

You are a compassionate, resilient, and dedicated individual with a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children and young people. You bring strong interpersonal and communication skills, allowing you to build trusting, respectful relationships and work collaboratively within a team environment. With a calm and adaptable approach, you can manage challenging behaviours and respond to crises using a trauma-informed and therapeutic mindset. You are reliable, organised, and committed to maintaining professional standards, while demonstrating empathy, patience, and a strong sense of responsibility in every aspect of your work.

You will also have the following skills and experience:

  • A minimum of Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention, Youth Work, or Disability.
  • Experience working with vulnerable and at-risk children, young people and adults with special needs, disability and/or challenging behaviours.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
