The Role

As part of the Chief Executive Officer’s Office, the Public Policy and Advocacy Adviser (PP&AA) will play a key role in raising the increasingly influential voice of Baptist Care SA. This role assists the CEO and Executive Leadership Team to express a clear and credible voice as it advocates for public policies that will improve outcomes for the vulnerable and marginalised people that we seek to serve.

The PP&AA will conduct research and collate evidence that strengthens the foundations of Baptist Care SA’s public policy frameworks, articulates sound policy positions and supports advancement of the organisation’s advocacy initiatives. The position will also interact with other public policy advocates that align with our values including the membership of Baptist Care Australia and will provide advocacy documentation that supports a range of State and Federal public policy priorities and advocacy initiatives.

About you

With proven success in developing effective working relationships with government officials, sector representatives, constituents and coalitions, Your demonstrated experience in the field of community services and non-for-profit organisations will be the backbone of your strategic, analytical, and politically sound judgements. You will continue to apply your research, and exceptional written and verbal skills to make meaningful changes in the homelessness, housing, child protection, disability, youth and family services and/or other relevant community services sectors. You will feel comfortable supporting and representing the Christian values and character of Baptist Care SA within and beyond the organisation.


  • Tertiary qualifications in public policy and social planning, law, public relations or another relevant field.

Specific employment requirements

  • A valid full South Australia driver’s licence (C Class)
  • A valid DHS Child-Related Employment Screening or Working with Children Check
  • A valid National Police Check (as applicable)
  • Training – Secure Environments for Children and Young People (as applicable)
  • Ability to work outside of normal office hours will be required
  • Travel within South Australia and interstate may be required
